Search Engine Optimisation (SEO)

or How to try and get higher up on Google

Getting to the top of Google is now one of the key directives from many clients. To demonstrate how to achieve this I created a simple site so that you can see how it is possible to achive this with the creation and design of a site that goes some way to meeting Google's ranking requirements. 

In no way do I lay claim that I know how to do it all, and as I often tell clients there are reasons why some people invest heavily for SEO services. 

However it is possible without paying for SEO services to achieve relatively high rankings.

Google change their algorithms all the time keeping ahead of the SEO specialists who are trying to keep ahead of Google! 

The days of concentrating on MetaTags have long gone, yes they are important but site structure and content are far more critical. 

In this example I have created a few pages based around the search term Off Piste Ski Equipment Specialist - something I know a little about!

Obviously it's far easier to achieve page one rankings in a less busy marketplace - concentrating locally such as Webdesigner Worthing rather than Webdesigner West Sussex.

That said there are many people in the Off Piste Ski business who would love to see their sites on page one of Google.

I achieved this is under 5 days!

5th on Page One Google "Off Piste Ski Equipment Specialist"

Not even a day later and I checked the rankings again and this time number one!

I have now revised the site in order to be found on a broader search term, loosing the word specialist and just going for the search phrase "off piste ski equipment"

We'll see what happens.

Latest Update

Since I decided to change the site to match the search phrase "Off Piste Ski Equipment" I thought I might have blown it, as I was stuck on page 5 for quite a few days, hardly surprising as all I had done was to create a few pages and here I was trying to gain a ranking above many established sites, be they from tour operators through to retailers in the Off Piste market place such as Snow and Rock!

So today (14th November) pleased to see that indeed I'm above Snow and Rock and currently number one on page two!
